WEBINAR RECORDING: Understanding Sales Tax After the Wayfair/South Dakota Ruling

Collecting sales tax in the United States has always been a bit of a challenge, with state and local laws governing the rules moreso than any national law or rules. With the recent Supreme Court decision in the case of Wayfair vs. South Dakota, things became more complex, with states being given more power by being able to define what constitutes “Economic Nexus.”

In summary, each state has the option to pass a law that determines the level or orders or revenue to customers in their state that triggers an economic nexus scenario, which then would require collection of sales tax for orders delivered to those customers. Each state can set its own level, and, combined with other types of nexus that may require collection of sales tax, means many merchants will have to be even more diligent about the topic.
